Getting your daughter's kids bra size chart right is one of the most important — and most overlooked — steps in buying her first bra. An ill-fitting bra is uncomfortable, distracting, and can make your daughter reluctant to wear one at all. A well-fitting bra, on the other hand, builds confidence and comfort from day one. This step-by-step measurement guide covers everything Indian moms need to know about sizing girls' bras from age 8 to 18.

Good news: measuring is simple, takes 5 minutes, and makes a real difference. Let's get started.

Why the Right Size Matters for Growing Girls

Growing girls have rapidly changing bodies. A bra that fit in April may not fit by July. And because breast tissue is still developing, wearing a bra that's too tight can cause discomfort, red marks, and even affect posture over time.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, supporting developing bodies correctly during puberty contributes to physical confidence and healthy body image. The right fit starts with the right measurement.

Tools You'll Need

  • A soft measuring tape (cloth or flexible plastic — not metal)
  • A well-fitting, non-padded bra or bralette (if she already has one) OR a fitted t-shirt
  • Paper and pen to note measurements
  • A private, comfortable space

Measure when your daughter is relaxed and standing straight. Take measurements over a thin t-shirt or fitted camisole for comfort.

Step-by-Step Measurement Guide

Step 1 — Band Measurement

Wrap the measuring tape around your daughter's ribcage, directly under the bust. The tape should be snug but not tight — you should be able to slip two fingers underneath. Note this measurement in inches. This is her band size. If the number is odd, round up to the nearest even number.

Step 2 — Bust Measurement

Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of the chest (across the nipple line). Keep the tape parallel to the ground and relaxed — not pulled tight. Note this measurement in inches.

Step 3 — Calculate Cup Size

Subtract the band measurement from the bust measurement. The difference tells you the cup size:

  • 0-1 inch difference = AA cup
  • 1 inch = A cup
  • 2 inches = B cup
  • 3 inches = C cup

For most girls in early development (ages 8-13), the difference will be 0-2 inches, meaning AA, A, or B cup.

Step 4 — Convert to Indian / Brand Size

Indian brands, including Suno Chanda, often use S/M/L/XL sizing for kids and teen bras — especially for starter and training bras where cup variation is minimal. Match your measurements to the chart below.

Complete Size Chart — Age & Measurements

Age Chest (inches) Bra Size Suno Chanda Size
8-9 years 24-26 inches XS / 28AA S
10-11 years 26-28 inches S / 30A M
12-13 years 28-30 inches M / 32A-32B M / L
14-15 years 30-32 inches L / 34A-34B L
16-18 years 32-34 inches XL / 36A-36B XL

Note: These are general guidelines. Always measure rather than estimate by age. Growing girls can be 1-2 sizes ahead or behind these ranges.

Our most popular first bra, the Suno Chanda Flat Padded Starter Bra, is available in S, M, L, and XL. The training bra collection follows the same sizing system for easy reference.

Signs Your Daughter Is Wearing the Wrong Size

Even with measurements, sometimes the fit isn't right. Watch for these signs:

  • Straps falling off shoulders: Band is too loose or straps need adjusting
  • Red marks under the band: Band is too tight — size up
  • Cup fabric wrinkling or folding: Cup size too large — size down
  • Bra riding up at the back: Band too loose or wrong style
  • She says it's uncomfortable: Trust her — try a different size or style

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I re-measure my daughter?

Every 3-4 months during active growth phases (typically ages 9-14). Girls can grow a full size in just a few months. If she's complaining about discomfort or the bra looks too small, measure immediately rather than waiting for the scheduled time.

My daughter is between sizes — which should I pick?

Always size up when between sizes. A slightly larger bra can be adjusted with straps; a bra that's too small can't be made bigger. A comfortable, slightly looser fit is always better than a tight one for growing bodies.

Do Indian bra sizes match international sizes?

Indian sizes (28, 30, 32) correspond to UK sizing, which uses inches for band measurement. US sizing is similar but may differ by 1-2 in some brands. European sizing uses centimeters. For Suno Chanda products, we use the S/M/L/XL system for kids bras to simplify the process for Indian moms.

Can she wear the same bra 24 hours a day?

It's recommended to give the body (and the bra) a rest. Removing the bra at night allows skin to breathe and prevents the band from stretching out prematurely. Sleeping without a bra is perfectly normal and healthy for developing girls.

What if her measurement doesn't match the standard chart?

Every body is unique. If measurements fall outside standard ranges, focus on finding a bra where the band fits snugly (not tight), the straps stay on without digging, and she says it's comfortable. Fit and comfort always trump the number on the label.
